The Lamar Dodd School of Art's Main Art Building is housed in a spacious, eco-conscious building located on east campus in close proximity to other facilities dedicated to the arts on campus including the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, the University of Georgia Performing Art Center and the Georgia Museum of Art. The Dodd’s facilities and equipment are state-of-the-art with studio faculty and graduate students generously accommodated—all with their own dedicated studios.

In addition to the Main Art Building, the Dodd operates out of four additional buildings on three corners of the University of Georgia's campus. These separate buildings include the Thomas Street Arts Complex, Broad Street Studios, and the Ceramics Building.

    Broad Street Studios

    The Dodd occupies two separate buildings on Broad Street in downtown Athens. Broad Street Two comprises our highly rated Interior Design Area. This space was designed by and for the Interior Design area and functions as a self-contained design program.

  • Thomas Street Art Complex

    Thomas Street Art Complex

    Located within walking distance from downtown Athens is the Lamar Dodd School of Art Thomas Street Art Complex. Thomas Street has a woodshop, metal fabrication shop, foundry, and jewelry studios with enameling, raising room, soldering stations and casting facilities.

    Main Art Building

    The Lamar Dodd School of Art's Main Art Building is housed in a spacious, eco-conscious building located on east campus in close proximity to other facilities dedicated to the arts on campus including the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, the University of Georgia

    The graduate ceramic studios are housed in a new, spacious 15,000 sq. ft. building built in 2012 adjacent to the main School of Art building. All undergraduate studios, faculty studios, and kilns are in this space.

    The Dodd‘s output and fabrication labs support students in creative making and innovative use of tools and technology.

  • Flat Lab full of computers, printers and scanners.

    Flat Lab

    The Flat Lab is an Open Access lab for students enrolled in art classes, faculty and staff. The lab is stocked with computers, printers and scanners for educational, non-commercial purposes.

    Object Lab

    The Object Lab at Lamar Dodd School of Art is a digital design and fabrication output space available exclusively to School of Art students, faculty, and staff for the purpose of creative practice and academic research.

Classroom and Studio Spaces

  • Painting and Drawing studio

    Painting and Drawing

    Housed in the Lamar Dodd School of Art Main Building on east campus and the Broad Street complex on north campus the Painting and Drawing area occupy over 17,500 sq. ft. of floor space. Nearly all of our studios offer natural lighting and excellent ventilation.

  • Printmaking and Book Arts materials

    Printmaking and Book Arts

    The Printmaking and Book Arts program at Lamar Dodd offers world-class facilities and resources enabling research in a variety of print, paper, and book arts media. The graduate program has private studios for up to eight MFA candidates.

  • Scientific Illustration examples

    Scientific Illustration

    Science Illustration has two 500 square foot classrooms. One is a studio with 18 drawing tables for students. The second classroom is a digital laboratory with 13 large screen iMacs with Wacom tablets.

  • Jewelry and Metals benches

    Jewelry & Metals

    The adjacent main studio is generously equipped with: small hand tools, an extensive selection of metalsmithing hammers, acetylene and natural gas torches for soldering and welding, rolling mills, a variety of shears, 20-Ton Bonny Doon hydraulic press, sand blaster, grinders, belt sanders, flexib

    Photography

    Housed in the main art building of the Lamar Dodd School of Art, the Photography area occupies over 7,000 square feet, spanning two floors.
